Keifer went on to pursues his profession as a musician and formed the Cinderella band using a pal. He began writing the materials and built up the nerve to become the lead vocalist despite really being a bashful guy. In 1985, the band was discovered by Jon Bon Jovi. Since then, the group experienced much success by making use of their records Night Songs (1986), Long Cold Winter (1988) and Heartbreak Station (1990). He became a prolific songwriter and enjoyed a reputation with hits for example Shake Me, Nobody’s Fool, Gypsy Road, Don’t Understand What You Got, Coming Home, Shelter Me, and Heartbreak Station.

Nevertheless, Tom Keifer lost his voice following the Heartbreak Station tour. He got several surgeries but these were unsuccessful. The band released their fourth album Still Climbing but has received little interest. This caused the split of the band in 1995 although they reunited in 1997 and toured a year later. The band was signed to Sony Records but a couple of years later, was dropped by the record label.
