The Katydids Bio/Wiki 2018
An extremely nice, but sadly short-lived, south London acoustic pop quintet, the Katydids shared an affinity with contemporaries like Fairground Appeal as well as the Bible. American-born vocalist Susie Hug and guitarist Adam Seymour fulfilled in 1987 when both had been working as program music artists for the short-lived duo Big Bam Boo; the pair’s rapport was apparent, and they had been soon working jointly. Adding acoustic guitarist Dan Adam, bassist Dave Hunter, and drummer Shane Youthful, the Katydids agreed upon with the recently reactivated Reprise label, which smartly matched the group with manufacturer Nick Lowe, whose rootsy sensibility was properly in sync using the group’s insufficient pretension. Their debut, 1989’s Katydids, was a good album with a fascinating mixture of ’60s pop and folk-rock affects. 1991’s Shangri-La, made by the Lightning Seed products’ Ian Broudie, modernized the audio a little and which relatively darker undercurrent to numerous from the tracks, but it’s almost the equal from the debut. Sadly, neither album marketed particularly well as well as the Katydids split up after Reprise lowered them.
