The Danleers Bio/Wiki 2018

Using their debut single “One Summer Night,” the Danleers became perhaps one of the most successful vocal sets of the late ’50s. Compiled by the group’s songwriter/supervisor Danny Webb and documented during their initial recording program, the tune reached the pop TOP and sold more than a million copies. The Danleers had been among the many vocal groupings that arose from the road sides, playgrounds, and tenement hallways of Brooklyn. Originally a quintet, offering lead vocalist Jimmy Weston, baritone vocalist Nat McCune, bass vocalist Roosevelt Mays, and tenors Johnny Lee and can Ephraim, the band’s audio was reinforced with the addition of Webb. Initially released over the Amp-3 label, “One Summer Night” quickly became an area hit and attracted the interest of Mercury, who reissued the listen in June 1958. After performing at Alan Freed’s Labor Time Extravaganza on the Brooklyn Fox Movie theater, the Danleers were invited to become listed on Frankie Avalon, Bobby Darin, Eddie Cochran, Connie Francis, Dion & the Belmonts, Pal Holly & the Crickets, Clyde McPhatter, as well as the Coasters within a nationally touring street show. “One Summer Evening” marked the final success for the Brooklyn-based group, nevertheless. After three tries to capture the momentum of “One Summer months Evening” failed, the group was fell by Mercury. Reorganized, with different workers, by Weston, the Danleers released two singles in the middle-’60s that didn’t revive their early achievement.
