Produced Stephen M. Rales in 1951, he earned his B.A. from DePauw University and was given a J.D. from American University. Rales worked for a year in his dad’s property company and left a year later to co-found Equity Group Holdings as well as his brother Mitchell Rales. Using junk bonds, they purchased diversified companies associated with housing building and components making including a vinyl siding maker, Mastershield, Mohawk Rubber Company, and the Diversified Mortgage Group. Since that time, the firm has grown and diversified. In February 2013, the company’s blood investigation department consented to pay a reported $300 million for Quest Diagnostics’ House Cue, a maker of blood-testing equipment for physicians’ offices. Earlier in the year, it’s got Navman Wireless, a firm that produces a tracking system for observation fleets of vehicles. In 2008, the Rales brothers took Colfax, an industrial pump manufacturer. In January 2013, it finalized a $2.4 billion deal to purchase Charter International, a British wedding, cutting, and automation business. In January 2013, he made Breathe In which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
