Michael Rubin is an American scholar and writer with an estimated net worth of $2.7 billion as of May 2015 according to Forbes. Produced in Philadelphia in 1971, he earned his B.S. in Biology from Yale University in 1994 and Ph.D. in history in 1999. He received the Yale’s John Addison Porter Prize with his dissertation, The Making of Modern Iran, 1858-1909: Communications, Telegraph and Society. He’s also lectured in history at Yale University, Hebrew University, Johns Hopkins University, along with a visiting lecturer at the universities at Sulaymani, Salahuddin, and Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He was also a staff adviser for Iran and Iraq at the Pentagon. Now, he provides academic education on regional problems for senior U.S. Army and Marine officers going to Iraq and Afghanistan. As an author, he’s composed Into the Shadows: Radical Vigilantes in Khatami’s Iran (Washington Institute, 2001), co-written Endless Iran (Palgrave, 2005), co-edited Dissent and Reform in the Arab World (AEI Press, 2008), and the upcoming Diplomacy with the Devil: The Promise and Perils of Engagement (Confrontation, 2014).
