He formed the Avenged Sevenfold in 1999 jointly with high school pals Zacky Vengeance, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan and Matt Wendt. Sullivan’s friend Synyster Gates joined the band as the lead guitarist.

M Shadows many years prior to the making of City of Evil that it might be an all singing album. This 2005 album has reached mainstream success that included the singles Burn It Down, Bat Country, Beast and the Harlot, and Seize the Day. The album Walking the Fallen will be half singing, half screaming. Other records will be all singing. Their self-title album includes singles like Critical Acclaim, Almost Easy, Afterlife, Scream and Dear God.
