Jill Dougherty is an American reporter who’s now the foreign affairs correspondent at CNN. She’s based in Washington DC and in charge of reporting on the foreign policy. Produced in the year 1949, Dougherty studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She received her Bachelor degree in Russian Language and Literature there. She’s also the Benton Fellow in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Chicago. Dougherty got treatment for breast cancer in 1999, when she was 50 years old. She recovered from her sickness after vigorous treatment that stretched for several years. She reminisces that her sickness had shown the true essence of her character and made her act more truly than before. Jill Dougherty began her career as reporter and writer for the USSR office of Voice of America. She subsequently moved to WMAQ TV where she worked as correspondent. She also did a short stint as freelancer doing duties for TIME magazine and National Public Radio. Dougherty additionally served as the White House Correspondent of CNN for almost six years beginning from 1991 to 1996. She was named as leader of the Moscow bureau of CNN in 1997. In her profession as White House Correspondent, she’s travelled with US presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. She covered the 1991 coup, the assault on the Russian White House in 1993, and the civil war in Soviet Georgia. Dougherty also covered news events associated with business, culture, and politics, when she worked as the US issues editor at CNN International. She’s received many honours and awards during her career such as the American Journalism Reviews award for Greatest White House Coverage in the year 1993.
