It was in 1985 when Murdock took over Castle & Cooke, a Hawaiian company that was on the verge of bankruptcy during that time. The company owns DOLE Food Company which specializes on creating pineapples and bananas. Through his direction, DOLE Food Company became the largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the whole world.

After four marriages, David Murdock finally settled down with Tracy Murdock. He had three kids, including Eugene, the son of his third wife from among his previous marriages. His other son David Jr expired because of an automobile accident. David Murdock’s only living son, Justin, now sits as the Executive Chairman of the Board and CEO of Executive Chairman of the Board. Justin also serves as the Senior Vice President of Investments of DOLE Food Company and Castle & Cooke. Previously, he possessed 98% of Lana’i which is considered as Hawaii’s sixth largest island. Larry Ellison brought his Lana’i assets in June 2012. Now, David Murdock owns Pacific Clay.
