David Cheriton is a Canadian-produced computer science professor at Stanford University using an estimated net worth of $3 billion as of May 2015 according to Forbes. He could be rated the 882nd richest man in the list of World Billionaires and 20th most affluent Canadian. He received his Masters and PhD degrees in computer science in the University of Waterloo in 1974 and 1978, respectively. He founded and directed the Distributed Systems Group, which developed the V operating system, at Stanford. In 1998, Cheriton encouraged two graduate students Larry Page and Sergey Brin to demo their job at his front porch. That little investment has paid off though he did not flaunt his wealth. David Cheriton can also be an angel investor. He’s co-founded three successful startups with Bechtolsheim including Granite Systems which can be obtained by Cisco in 1996 and Kealia, purchased by Sun Microsystems in 2004. Their latest venture is the Santa Clara-based Arista Networks that assembles high speed data switches and is competing with the likes of Cisco.
