A significant force in the LA jazz community, Friend Collette was an early on pioneer at taking part in jazz within the flute. Collette began on piano as a kid and then steadily learned all the woodwinds. He used Les Hite in 1942; led a dance music group within the Navy during Globe War II; and freelanced in the L.A. region with such rings as the Superstars of Golf swing (1946), Edgar Hayes, Louis Jordan, Benny Carter, and Gerald Wilson (1949-1950).
