After graduating in the University of Kansas, Barry Switzer joined the army but after a while, he returned to the school as an assistant college football coach. When the 1966 season ended, Switzer joined the University of Oklahoma still as an assistant coach. When the then head coach Chuck Fair banks joined New England Patriots to become the head coach, Switzer instantly became the head coach of University of Oklahoma. Under his leadership, Barry Switzer won the 1974, 1975 and 1985 tournaments. On his 16-year tenure together with the University of Oklahoma, the team emerged successful in 8 out of 13 post season bowl games they have participated in. Also, 54 of his players were stated as All-Americans.
