Anna Kournikova Bio/Wiki 2018

Anna Sergeyevna Kournikova was born on June 7, 1981 in Moscow, Russia (once the Soviet Union). Kournikova’s parents were both skilled sportsmen; her dad was a former Greco Wrestling Champ and her mom a runner. Kournikova was given her first racquet in age 5 but failed to pursue the sport vigorously for another couple of years when she displayed signs of actual ability. Kournikova started playing and triumphing in junior tournaments in age 8 and two years later she signed a management deal to attend Nick Bollettieri’s tennis academy in Florida.

Kournikova’s profile grew rapidly and at 14 she won the European Championships, the Italian Open and the famous Junior Orange Bowl tournament. Another year Kournikova turned professional and won a few of lower-grade tournaments and reached her first doubles final in a WTA event. The following year was much more remarkable as Kournikova reached the fourth round in the U.S. Open and represented Russia in the Atlanta Olympics. Kournikova finished 1996 ranked in the top 100 as well as in 1997 she reached the semifinals at Wimbledon, just the second girls to reach that point in her introduction. Prior to the close of the decade, she’d continue to play nicely at Grand Slams and reached her second final, again losing. In doubles, kournikova won two Grand Slam tournaments.

Harms cut short Kournikova’s career. Despite that, Kournikova’s good looks would catapult her to world visibility making her among the very marketable girl in the world. Kournikova appeared in numerous high profile magazines, including Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue, was a constant fixture at star events, outdated stars and sportsmen and started sponsorship deals with a number of the most important brands on the planet. She’s appeared in everything from music videos and films and her relationships became fodder for paparazzi. She’s experienced a long-term relationship with vocalist Enrique Iglesias since 2001.
